About the The Poet And Poem :
William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was a famous English poet and dramatist the sixteenth century. He wrote sonnets, tragedies, comedies and historical plays. Some of his noted works are Macbeth, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Venus and Adonis.
Shakespeare wrote 154 sonnets. Shakespearean sonnet has fourteen lines, ending in a rhymed couplet. In this poem Shakespeare enquires into the theme of the destruction brought by time and the eternal quality of art which transcends the ravages of time
কবি ও কবিতা সম্পর্কে :
উইলিয়াম শেক্সপিয়র (১৫৬৪-১৬১৬) ষোড়শ শতাব্দীর এক বিখ্যাত কবি ও নাট্যকার ছিলেন। তিনি সনেট, ট্র্যাজেডি, কমেডি এবং ঐতিহাসিক নাটক রচনা করেছিলেন। তাঁর কয়েকটি উল্লেখযোগ্য রচনা হ’ল Macbeth, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Venus and Adonis.
শেক্সপিয়ার ১৫৪ টি সনেট লিখেছেন। শেক্সপীয়ার সনেটের চৌদ্দ লাইন রয়েছে, মিত্রাক্ষর দ্বিপদীতে শেষ হয়। এই কবিতায় শেক্সপিয়ার সময় এবং শিল্পের চিরস্থায়ী উৎকর্ষের দ্বারা নিয়ে আসা ধ্বংসের মূলভাবটি অনুসন্ধান করেন যা সময়ের বিপর্যয়কে অতিক্রম করে।
SUMMARY (সারসংক্ষেপ) :
Sonnet no. 18 is dedicated to a friend of the poet whom he admires greatly. The friend is a young man of great beauty. To bring out the exquisite beauty of his friend, the poet goes into several comparisons in the first light lines. The poem says that where as the beauty of a summer’s day is subject to fluctuation, the beauty of his friend is eternal and unchangeable. The poem affirms that his friend is more beautiful than the changing beauty of nature. It is beauty of the sort whose fairness cannot be entrapped by age or death. The poet immortalises the beauty of his friend in his verse. Whenever the poem will be read, the beauty of his friend would be revived. This points to the timeless nature of art which captures beauty and keeps it safe from, to quote another line from Shakespeare, “the blank hand of time”.

সনেট নং ১৮ কবির এক বন্ধুকে উৎসর্গীকৃত, যার তিনি প্রচুর প্রশংসা করেন। বন্ধুটি অত্যন্ত সৌন্দর্যবান এক যুবক। বন্ধুর অপূর্ব সৌন্দর্যকে সামনে বের করে আনার জন্য কবি প্রথম আলোক রেখায় বেশ কয়েকটি তুলনা করেছেন। কবিতাটি বলেছে যে গ্রীষ্মের দিনের সৌন্দর্য যেখানে কম বেশী হওয়ার বিষয়, সেখানে তার বন্ধুর সৌন্দর্য চিরন্তন এবং অপরিবর্তনীয়। কবিতাটি নিশ্চিত করেছে যে তার বন্ধু প্রকৃতির পরিবর্তিত সৌন্দর্যের চেয়েও অনেক বেশি সুন্দর। এটি এমনই এক প্রকার সৌন্দর্য যার বিশুদ্ধতা বয়স বা মৃত্যু দ্বারা আটকা পড়ে না। কবি তাঁর কবিতাটিতে তাঁর বন্ধুর সৌন্দর্যকে অমর করে তুলেছেন। যখনই কবিতাটি পড়া হবে, তখনই তাঁর বন্ধুর সৌন্দর্য পুনরজ্জীবিত হবে। এটি শিল্পের অসীম প্রকৃতির দিকে ইঙ্গিত করে যা সৌন্দর্যকে আকর্ষণ করে এবং এটি থেকে নিরাপদ রাখে, শেক্সপিয়ারের অন্য একটি লাইন “the blank hand of time” থেকে উদ্ধৃত করে।

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
আমি কি তোমাকে গ্রীষ্মের একটি দিনের সাথে তুলনা করব?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
তুমি হলে আরও অনেক মনোরম এবং আরও বেশি নাতিশীতোষ্ণ(আত্মসংযমী)।
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
রুক্ষ বাতাস মে মাসের প্রিয়তম কুঁড়িটিকে কাঁপায়,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.
এবং গ্রীষ্মের সময়কাল একটি খুব সংক্ষিপ্ত কাল।
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
কখনও কখনও খুব উত্তপ্ত স্বর্গের চোখ(সূর্য) জ্বলজ্বল করে,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
এবং প্রায়শই তার সোনার বর্ণটি ম্লান হয়ে যায়;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
এবং প্রতিটি সুন্দর বস্তু থেকে কখন বা কখন সৌন্দর্য হ্রাস পায়,
By chance, or nature’s changing course untrimmed.

না হারাবে তোমার সৌন্দর্যের দখল(সুন্দর থাকার অধিকার)
Nor shall death brag thou wand’rest in his shade,
না মৃত্যু দাম্ভিক হবে তুমি তার ছায়ায় ঘুরে বেড়ালেও,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st,
যখন তুমি সময়ের শাশ্বত রেখা বরাবর বৃদ্ধি পাবে,
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
মানুষেরা যতক্ষণ শ্বাস নিতে পারে বা চোখে দেখতে পায়,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
তত দিন এটি বেঁচে থাকে এবং এটি তোমাকে জীবন(জীবনীশক্তি) দেয়।
