What traits of Englishmen did Sir Mohan adopt to become as refined and gentleman-like as any English person
Or, Give a brief description of Sir Mohan Lal’s appearance and English manners as revealed in the story ‘Karma’. Class 11 | English (Karma) 6 Marks

Ans:

Sir Mohan’s five years stay in abroad had helped him acquire the manners and attitudes of the upper classes. He spoke Hindustani in an anglicised manner, like any other typical Englishman. He was fond of conversation. He could talk on almost any subject like-books, politics and people. He read nothing but ‘The Times’. He preferred English cigarettes and scotch. He always travelled in the first-class. Furthermore, his attire spoke of his taste. His neatly trimmed moustache, his suit from Saville Row with a carnation in the buttonhole, his Balliol tie and his use of eau-de-cologne, talcum powder and scented soap helped him to become as refined and gentleman-like as any cultured English person.
