Kshudiram Bose was one of the great martyrs of India under the British rule. He laid down his life for the freedom of his motherland. He was born in 1889 in undivided Midnapore in the British India. In his childhood he was brought up by his elder sister. Kshudiram was educated in Hamilton High School, a renowned institution of the then Tamluk. He came in contact with the revolutionaries from his school days. Their sole mission was to free their motherland from the clutches of the British. The revolutionaries decided to kill a tyrant magistrate called Kingsford. Kshudiram Bose and Prafulla Chaki were entrusted to fulfil the mission. They went to Muzaffarpur of Bihar and hurled bombs at him. But Kingsford remained unhurt. Kshudiram was arrested and accused of sedition. On 11 August 1909 he was hanged to death. This fearless patriot embraced death with Vande Mataram’on his lips. Though Kshudiram’s mortal body is no more, his fiery spirit of patriotism is immortal.

ব্রিটিশ শাসনাধীনে ভারতের অন্যতম মহান শহিদ ছিলেন ক্ষুদিরাম বসু। তিনি তাঁর মাতৃভূমির স্বাধীনতালাভের জন্য নিজের জীবন উৎসর্গ করেছিলেন। ব্রিটিশ শাসনাধীন ভারতের অবিভক্ত মেদিনীপুর জেলায় ১৮৮৯ খ্রিস্টাব্দে তাঁর জন্ম হয়। ছেলেবেলায় তিনি তার দিদির কাছে মানুষ হন। তদানীন্তন তমলুকের প্রখ্যাত প্রতিষ্ঠান হ্যামিল্টন হাইস্কুলে তিনি পড়াশােনা করেন। স্কুলে পড়ার সময়েই তিনি বিপ্লবীদের সংস্পর্শে আসেন। তাদের একমাত্র লক্ষ্য ছিল ব্রিটিশদের কবল থেকে মাতৃভূমিকে মুক্ত করা। বিপ্লবীরা কিংসফোর্ড নামে এক অত্যাচারী ম্যাজিস্ট্রেটকে হত্যা করতে মনস্থ করেছিল। এই লক্ষ্যপূরণের দায়িত্ব অর্পিত হয় ক্ষুদিরাম বসু আর প্রফুল্ল চাকীর উপর। তাঁরা বিহারের মুজফফরপুরে গিয়ে তাঁকে লক্ষ্য করে বােমা ছাড়েন। কিন্তু কিংসফোর্ড অক্ষত থাকেন। ক্ষুদিরাম গ্রেফতার হন এবং রাজদ্রোহে অভিযুক্ত হন। ১৯০৯ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ১১ আগস্ট তাকে ফাঁসি দেওয়া হয়। এই নির্ভীক দেশপ্রেমিক মুখে বন্দেমাতরম ধ্বনি তুলে মৃত্যুকে বরণ করেন। ক্ষুদিরামের নশ্বর দেহ আর না থাকলে কী হবে, তার দেশপ্রেমের অগ্নিদীপ্ত মনােভাব চির অমর।
