A DAY YOU WILL NEVER FORGET

The day which I think has left a permanent impression on my mind is the day when my Madhyamik results were declared. It had been nearly three months since I had taken my last exam and out of the happiness of having such a long period of freedom from studies I nearly forgot that I had been waiting for my life’s first board examination results. It was to be declared on May 28, in the afternoon. Terrible nightmares kept me awake the previous night. Although my exams had gone pretty well, a strange sense of fear seemed to grip me. In the morning, my father sat in front of the television. waiting for the news channels to flash the news of the declaration of the results. Meanwhile, I joined my mother in praying earnestly before the deities. I kept on requesting God to at least let me pass the examination and also promised to study harder in future. But, I was still feeling very tensed. Few my friends started calling me up and sending in text messages as they too were worried about their results. As time went by, I began to feel butterflies in my stomach. So, to distract myself, I made myself a cup of coffee and started sipping it while listening to my favourite songs on my headphone. I must have dozed off when suddenly I heard my mother shouting my name. “Your result has come out, Munia. Is this the time to sleep?” Out of the corner of the eye, I could see my father trying to access the website through the computer. I sat with my eyes half-closed, in front of the computer. Within a few minutes, my father cried out, “Hurrah! Munia, you scored 92% in the Madhyamik Exam!” I could barely speak out of disbelief and joy and as I hugged my parents, I saw tears of joy in their eyes for the first time in my life. It will always remain as the most memorable day in my life.
