DRUG ADDICTION – A GLOBAL DANGER

Drug addiction is a condition in which a person has an uncontrollable desire to consume drugs, legal or illegal, either by inhaling or injecting or swallowing, to insert those into his or her own body. Harmful substances like opium, heroine, marijuana, cocaine, morphine, nicotine etc when taken, make the person feel excited as these increase the levels of ‘dopamine’ or happiness hormone in the body. These types of substances, if taken repeatedly, form addiction and lead to various fatal diseases, and even death. Among the addicted people, the youth are most in number. The young generation uses these drugs for their pleasure and to reduce their frustration. It has become a global problem and there is no proper enforcement of laws regarding this matter. Drugs have severe consequences on the human body as these damage both the brain as well as the internal organs of the body. Sometimes, young people get involved in crimes like stealing, robbery, etc. to have the constant supply of money needed to buy these expensive drugs. The uninterrupted supply of drugs is ensured by the foreign drug dealers who move from one place to another to sell these illegal drugs. In the absence of effective laws, such drugs are smuggled across borders at soaring prices. Therefore, enforcement of stringent law is needed immediately. Parents as well as teachers must take proper care of the children so that they can choose the right path. The worldwide problem of drug addiction can be resolved only when every person of every country becomes aware of its life threatening impact.
