MY FAVOURITE SPORTSPERSON
Among all the sportspersons of the world, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is my favourite. He is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket who has inspired hundreds to take up the sport. Born on April 24, 1973, this legend started his career in test cricket at the young age of sixteen, against Pakistan. The first thing I love about him is his self- belief. He played the flick, the pull, the upper cut, the straight drive, the cover drive and all other kinds of shots with the kind of innate ability that mesmerised me. Sachin, also known as ‘Little Master’ or ‘Master Blaster’ has scored a mountain of 15,921 runs in tests and 18,426 runs in one-day internationals which is till date, the maximum runs scored in both format. He is also the only player to have scored one hundred international centuries and is the highest run scorer of all time in international cricket. His decency as a player complements his cricketing expertise. His leadership, enthusiasm, dedication towards what he does not only on the field but also off the field, add to his greatness. In spite of being one of the greatest cricketers, his modesty and down-to-earth attitude. enthrones him as an idol in the hearts of countless youth. He is bestowed with several national and international awards including the Bharat Ratna. Although he has retired from all forms of cricket in 2013, his passion for cricket has made him a living legend. Sachin is not just a person-he is an emotion, a symbol of hope. So, I must say if cricket is a religion, Sachin is its God.
