Equality – Paragraph Writing
Points : [ Introduction – what it implies – kinds of equality – their nature – – conclusion.]
EQUALITY
Equality is a democratic ideal that strives for a condition wherein all men are treated in the same way regardless of their social status, gender, race, language or religion. If liberty is reckoned to be one pillar of democracy, its second pillar is undoubtedly equality. But it is absurd to expect equality to be absolute. Just as Nature has not created all men equal, equality also does not imply that all men deserve exactly the same treatment. Equality, in reality, is an average standard of rights and opportunities acceptable to all that nobody should be deprived of.
There are, in general, following kinds of equality: (i) social equality, (ii) civil equality, (iii) political equality, (iv) economic equality and (v) equality of opportunity and education. Social equality ensures that all citizens enjoy equal status in society and that there is no discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, colour, race, class and so on. Civil equality means there should be similar civil rights and civil liberties for all the citizens. In the eyes of law all are equal. Political equality guarantees that all citizens must have the similar political rights and opportunities to participate in the political affairs of his/her country. Economic equality is closely related to one of man’s basic needs, that is, the access to worldly goods including food, clothes, medicines etc. And the last but not the least, equality of opportunity and education is also equally important in the direction of building a great democratic nation.
