A CUNNING FOX AND A GOAT
Points: A thirsty fox-in search of water-grows dark-falls into well-quenches thirst—fails to jump out-next morning a goat passes by—invites the goat to taste sweet water goat jumps in—fox climbs out.
Once a fox lived in a forest. One day he felt thirsty and was moving to and fro in search of water. It grew dark and suddenly the fox fell into a well. He quenched his thirst but could not get out of the well. The night went by. Next morning, a goat happened to pass by that way. The cunning fox thought of a plan. He said to the goat, “Hey, why don’t you jump in and have a taste of this sweet water? It’s cool and refreshing.” The foolish goat was unable to see through the trick of the fox. He jumped into the well. The fox used the horns of the goat as a ladder and climbed out of the well. The poor goat cried and cried at his own foolishness.
Moral: Do not believe a rogue./Look before you leap.
ধূর্ত শিয়াল ও ছাগল
একদা এক জঙ্গলে একটি শিয়াল বাস করত। একদিন তার খুব তেষ্টা পেল এবং সে জলের সন্ধানে এদিক-ওদিক ঘুরতে লাগল। তখন অন্ধকার হয়ে এসেছিল আর হঠাৎই শিয়ালটি একটা কুয়াের মধ্যে পড়ে গেল। সেখানে সে তার তেষ্টা মেটাল বটে কিন্তু কুয়াে থেকে বাইরে বেরিয়ে আসতে পারল না। রাত কেটে গেল। পরদিন সকালে একটি ছাগল ঘটনাক্রমে সেখান দিয়ে যাচ্ছিল। ধূর্ত শিয়ালটির মাথায় একটি ফন্দি এল। সে ছাগলটিকে বলল, “ওহে শ্ৰীমান, এখানকার এই মিষ্টি জল পান করতে কেন লাফ দিয়ে পড়ছ না? কী ঠান্ডা আর প্রাণ জড়ানাে এই জল!” বােকা ছাগলটা শিয়ালের ফন্দিটা ধরতে পারল না। সে লাফ দিয়ে কুয়াের মধ্যে পড়ল। শিয়াল ছাগলের শিং দুটোকে মই হিসেবে ব্যবহার করে কুয়াের বাইরে বেরিয়ে এল। বেচারা ছাগল নিজের বােকামির জন্য বিলাপ করতে থাকল।
