AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A TREE
I am a huge mango tree standing at a corner, within the campus of a temple. Long time back, I was a young sapling-fresh and beautiful. The daughter of the then head pandit of the temple planted me here. The little girl used to visit me daily and would water my roots. We had become good friends. But, after a few years, her family moved away leaving me all alone. Now I am fully grown and as I stand near the temple, I see different sorts of people every day. So, there is no scope of feeling lonely or bored. I also get to see the temple being opened at 6 a.m. and being cleaned and washed. After that, the rituals start and the ringing sound of the bells fills the surrounding air. In summer, I bear several sweet ripe mangoes. Many people and children come to collect mangoes from my branches. I feel good when they are happy on having my sweet fruits. People wait under my shade for their turn to offer their prayer to God. Some children, who come with their parents to the temple, play around me. I love to watch them play and talk. From them, I come to know various things about human beings. The people who come to me, somehow get attached to me and a bond of friendship is forged between us. In this way, my life has been and will remain full of pleasure and experience.
