When the bearded man came out from his ambush to find the Tsar and kill him, he was recognised and wounded by the Tsar’s bodyguard. Somehow, he escaped from them and reached near the hermit’s hut. There he fell fainting, moaning feebly. He was nursed by the Tsar and the hermit. Since the Tsar played a major role in saving his life, the wounded man was grateful to him. He confessed his plan of assassinating the Tsar, to the Tsar out of gratitude. He even promised to serve the Tsar as his most loyal slave all his life.
