The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword – Paragraph Writing

THE PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD

Author Edward Bulwer-Lytton stated that, although a pen, used for writing, is smaller in size, it can achieve more deeds than a large sword, used in war. It implies that the power of writing is eternal while the power of the sword is temporary. Both the pen and the sword have their own uses. Swords are the symbol of force. Those are used to apply force on the views of others. On the other hand, pens are used to express the personal opinion of the writers to the public. So, the readers have no compulsion to agree with the writers; instead they have the freedom to construct their own views. A writing can influence a whole nation in a peaceful manner. But a sword only challenges the views of the oppressed and the submissive leading to conflict, hatred, misery and destruction. Unlike the sword, the pen through writing, conquers the mind and heart of people causing an impact that lives on for generations. The writings of great writers and thinkers like Swami Vivekanand, Karl Marx, Machiavelli, Mahatma Gandhi, Maxim Gorky, make people laugh, cry, think and act. Though swords are meant to destroy evil, those are never used for any good. Kings and soldiers used those to grab power in a violent way, while powers are temporary. The conquests of Alexander, Napoleon, Aurangzeb and other conquerors have gone into oblivion. But, words create peace during wars. Pride of victories earned by sword goes, but the poetry of Rabindranath Tagore, William Shakespeare, John Keats and William Wordsworth remains. So, the power of the pen, which inspires, motivates and transforms people, must be understood to build a constructive generation.
