Gosaba, May 27: A tiger snatched a young fisherman off his boat, in the Panchmukhani forest, in the core area of the Sundarban Tiger Reserve today. The fisherman, whom the tiger attacked, is Anil Mondal of 28 years. He and four others from Satjelia-Il had gone to a creek to catch fish. “The tiger attacked them in an area where any kind of human activity is banned. They simply flouted the administration’s warning and thereby paid the price,” opined a section of the forest officials. Recently, tigers have been found more often in the human habitats, only because human beings are more often found in the core jungle area, where all sort of human activity is prohibited. By disobeying the law, they are, thus, inviting their own deaths. The tiger dragged Anil’s body into the forest and it is yet to be found.

গােসাবা, মে ২৭: সুন্দরবন ব্যাঘ্র প্রকল্পের কেন্দ্রস্থলের অন্তর্গত পাঁচমুখানি অরণ্যে আজ একটি নৌকা থেকে একজন অল্পবয়সি জেলেকে বাঘে তুলে নিয়ে গেছে। যে জেলেকে বাঘ আক্রমণ করেছিল তার নাম অনিল মণ্ডল, বয়স ২৮ বছর। সাতজেলিয়া-২ থেকে তিনি এবং অন্য চারজন একটি খাড়িতে মাছ ধরতে গেছিলেন। বনদপ্তরের আধিকারিকদের একাংশের মতে, “বাঘ তাদের সেখানে আক্রমণ করেছে যেখানে মানুষের কোনােরকম কাজকর্ম করা নিষিদ্ধ। সােজা কথায় তারা প্রশাসনের হুঁশিয়ারি অমান্য করার দাম দিয়েছেন।” অরণ্য অঞ্চলের কেন্দ্রস্থল, যেখানে সবরকম মনুষ্যোচিত কাজকর্ম নিষিদ্ধ, সেখানে ঘন ঘন মানুষদের দেখা যাচ্ছে বলেই সাম্প্রতিককালে মনুষ্যবসতিতে বাঘদের ঘন ঘন দেখা যাচ্ছে। এভাবে তারা আইন না মেনে নিজেদের মৃত্যুই ডেকে আনছে। বাঘটি অনিলের শরীর জঙ্গলে টেনে নিয়ে চলে যায় এবং এখনও তা খুঁজে পাওয়া যায়নি।
