You are very much like everything else in this country inefficient dirty indifferent | Who said this to whom
Or,
“You are very much like everything else in this country, inefficient, dirty, indifferent,”—Who said this to whom ? Describe the speaker’s opinion about the Indian people and its culture. Class 11 | English (Karma) 6 Marks
Ans:
Sir Mohan Lal said this to the mirror of the first-class waiting room.
Sir Mohan Lal, well-bred in English manners and culture, always looked down upon the Indians. To him, Indians were dirty, inefficient and indifferent. They displayed examples of bad breeding with their excitement, bustle and hurry. Moreover, Indians had the habit of showing eagerness to talk to the English people. They were loud, aggressive and opinionated. All these were in stark contrast to Mohan Lal’s aroma of eau de cologne, talcum powder and scented soap. According to him, illiteracy of the Indians made them a laughing stock to the English people. All these ideas about the Indians showed Sir Mohan Lal’s aversion and contempt for the Indian people and culture.
