A FAMILY GET-TOGETHER
In the fast-paced life of present-day, circumstances have forced the joint family system to disintegrate into nuclear families. We live in different parts of the globe and the modern tele-communication is the lone medium to stay in touch. But, the birthday of my grandmother coincided with Durga Puja last year and it gave us the rare opportunity for a family get-together. Our century old, decaying mansion came alive for a few days once again. It was a melting pot of the past and the present. Relatives contemporary to my grandmother went on recalling the good old days. Fathers and uncles shared bits of old anecdotes of their school and college life. We the representatives of the new generation, got busy with cousins. Meeting after long days, we exchanged our views on various topics and enjoyed ourselves very much. Dining together at a restaurant was the best part of the evening. A family photograph was taken to eternalise the evening. It was an evening which all of us would fondly recollect in days to come.
