Ans:

The male passenger who boarded the train at Saharanpur said the line mentioned above to the narrator.

The second fellow passenger boarded the train at Saharanpur. After boarding the train, the co-passenger told the narrator that he must be disappointed because he is not nearly as attractive a travelling companion as the one who just left. In reply, the narrator asked about the girl’s hairstyle. The fellow commuter got a bit perplexed hearing the question and said that he noticed the eyes of the girl and not her hair because she had beautiful eyes but they were of no use to her since she was completely blind.

Throughout his journey the narrator tried to conceal from the girl the fact that he was blind. But when the fellow-traveller revealed the truth, he realized that all his defence mechanism was vainly employed and fate had played a ruthless prank on him.
