VISIT TO A PLACE OF INTEREST

It is a common saying that travel improves educational attainments. So, in order to make the imparted education fruitful and complete, our school organises an excursion every year in winter. This year our school decided to give us a taste of the true magnificence of Mughal art through a direct interaction with the Mughal era’s masterpiece-Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum built in the memory of Mumtaz Mahal, wife of emperor Shah Jahan. It took 22 years and 22,000 workers to build this monument entirely with white marble brought from all over the world. It cost 32 billion rupees to build the grandly designed monument. We reached Agra by train on a full moon day. We entered the main premises through a red sandstone entrance of the Taj Mahal. The green grass and the rows of green cedar trees enhanced its majestic beauty. We moved towards the mausoleum. After so many years, even today the marble has not lost its beauty. All over the walls and floor there are carved motifs and prayers in Urdu which is unique. Below the surface, inside the crypt area, we saw the tombs of both Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan-the eternal lovers placed side by side. At night we experienced the rare sight of moonlight getting reflected on the marble surface, making the entire edifice shine like a grand piece of diamond, dazzling under the clear sky. We also visited each and every part of this superb piece of art and were immensely delighted. I am still full of wonder and can see the mesmerising beauty of the Taj Mahal in my mind’s eye.
