Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
The poet and the text :
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807 – 1882) was one of the most famous American poets of his day. Longfellow is well known for his lyric poems, noted for their musicality. His first major poetry collections were Voices of the Night (1839) and Ballads and Other Poems (1841). The present text is a part of Longfellow’s poem of the same name.
হেনরি ওয়েডসওয়ার্থ লংফেলো (১৮০৭ – ১৮৮২) তাঁর সময়ের অন্যতম বিখ্যাত আমেরিকান কবি ছিলেন। লংফেলো তাঁর গীতি কবিতা গুলির জন্য সুপরিচিত, তাদের সংগীতময়তার জন্য বিখ্যাত। তাঁর প্রথম প্রধান কাব্যগ্রন্থগুলি ছিল ভয়েসস অফ দ্য নাইট (১৮৩৯) এবং ব্যালডস এবং অন্যান্য কবিতা (১৮৪১)। বর্তমান পাঠ্য টি লঙ্গফেলোর একই নামের কবিতার একটি অংশ।

Seed-time and harvest, has returned again,
‘T is sweet to visit the still wood, where springs
The first flower of the plain.
যখন গরম সূর্য, যে নিয়ে আসে
বীজ বোনার সময় এবং ফসল কাটার সময়, বার বার ফিরে এসেছে,
তখন নীরব বন ভ্রমণ খুবই সুন্দর, যেখানে উদিত হ্য়
সমতল ভূমির প্রথম ফুল।
I love the season well,
When forest glades are teeming with bright forms,
Nor dark and many-folded clouds foretell
The coming-on of storms.
আমি সময়টি ভালই পছন্দ করি,
যখন বনাঞ্চলের ঘাসের জামিগুলি পরিপূর্ণ উজ্জ্বল বিন্যাসে,
না অন্ধকার এবং বহু ভাঁজযুক্ত মেঘরা পূর্বাভাস দেয়
ঝড়ের আগমনের।
From the earth’s loosened mould
The sapling draws its sustenance, and thrivesi
Though stricken to the heart with winter’s cold;
The drooping tree revives.
পৃথিবীর আলগা নরম উর্বরা জমি থেকে
চারা তার ভরণপোষণ আঁকায় এবং উন্নত হয় পুষ্টিরস টেনে নেয় এবং সতেজ হইয়া ওঠে
যদিও শীতের ঠান্ডায় বুকে পেয়েও;
নুইয়ে পড়া গাছটিও নতুন ভাবে জেগে ওঠে।
The softly-warbled song
Comes from the pleasant woods, and coloured wings
Glance quick in the bright sun, that moves along
The forest openings.
স্নিগ্ধ- জয়ধ্বনি যুক্ত গান
আসে মনোরম বন থেকে এবং রঙিন ডানাগুলি
তাড়াতাড়ি এক ঝলক দেখা যায় উজ্জ্বল রোদে, যা এগিয়ে চলে
বনের খোলা যায়গা গুলি দিয়ে।
When the bright sunset fills
The silver woods with light, the green slope throws
Its shadows in the hollows of the hill,
And wide the upland glows.
যখন উজ্জ্বল সূর্যাস্ত পূর্ণ করে
রূপালী বনকে আলোয়, সবুজ ঢালে নিক্ষেপ করে
এর ছায়া পাহাড়ের ছোটো উপত্যকা গুলির উপর,

During this all birds are their wings look with multi coloured hence it is sweet to visit the wood at the time of spring season .
b) What does winter’s cold do to the tree?
Ans: Whenever winter’s cold falls hardly there are likely stricken towards hearts with chilly cold and so they fully wither.
c) What time of the Day do you think it is when “ The green slope throws its shadows in the hollows of the hills ?”
Ans: It’s sunset Day (period ) when the green slope throws it’s shadows in the hollows of the hills.
(d) Why do you think the poem is titled “An April Day”? Suggest an alternative title.
Ans: Because the poem describes a day in the month of April.
An alternative title may be “Sweet Spring”.
